Service Description

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the wonders of the universe designed specifically for curious young minds! Our engaging stargazing sessions are perfect for primary and secondary school students, combining hands-on learning with the joy of exploring the night sky. Your adventure begins with a captivating introduction to the stars and constellations, as our guides use lasers to point out key celestial features. This activity builds essential stargazing skills and introduces concepts from astronomy, physics, and cosmology in an easy-to-understand way. Students will learn how telescopes work, how to find celestial objects, and uncover fascinating facts about the science behind what they see, from the physics of planetary motion to the life cycles of stars. We also explore the rich Māori heritage connected to the night sky. Students will discover the cultural significance of Matariki, traditional navigation techniques, and how Māori ancestors read the stars to guide their way and mark seasonal changes. This unique program blends science, culture, and hands-on exploration, sparking curiosity and encouraging a lifelong passion for learning. STEM AND FAMILY FRIENDLY Even though the sessions end late, these activities are family-friendly and ideal for kids. You will have a nice opportunity to learn more about the solar system and the Universe, and also to motivate interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) in young minds. Some telescopes and additional resources will be available for use. Including telescopes that can be operated by kids. LOCATION Stargazing Labs are taking place from Duder Regional Park, Maraetai, just 40 minutes from the Auckland CBD. This beautiful location offers stunning views of the night sky and extremely low light pollution coming from the city.
